Reuniting Families Amid Queensland Flood Crisis

When the worst flooding in 50 years hit the Barcoo region this month, Angel Flight was ready to respond—true to our motto: Help Where Help is Needed.

After offering our support to Thargomindah and surrounding shires, the calls began. One was from Kay Wood, EA to the Mayor of Barcoo, who was worried about children stranded at boarding schools in Longreach, Yeppoon, and Rockhampton. We knew we had to act fast to get them home in time for the Easter holidays.

Thanks to our incredible pilots, Randal and Rory, two aircraft were swiftly deployed. One mission began in Mt Isa, picking up four children in Longreach. Three were dropped in Muttaburra, and the last—Maggie—was flown home to Windorah, where her family welcomed her with open arms. The second flight brought boarders from Rockhampton back to flood-affected Stonehenge and Jundah, reuniting them with their relieved parents.

Beyond these emotional reunions, Angel Flight has also offered to fly in medical professionals, disaster relief workers, and essential personnel to help with the recovery efforts across western Queensland.

Angel Flight CEO Marjorie Pagani said; “Rural communities are the backbone of our country, and we are here to offer a helping hand by flying resources in and people out, just as we have done for the past 22 years.”

We’re continuing to work closely with the ICPA QLD INC – Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association Queensland Inc to make sure vulnerable children are supported whenever crisis or health concern.
